Yew Dell Botanical Gardens — 6220 Old LaGrange Rd. Yew Dell is the former home and commercial nursery of Theodore Klein, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and named by Horticulture Magazine as one of the top ten botanical gardens in the country to see. The Rounsavall Pavilion seats up to 250 with tables, and the Holly Allée guides guests to an event lawn that holds 300 for a ceremony. • Martha Lee's Kitchen. On-site lunch. This is the practical reason to arrive before the plant walk instead of after.

3rd Turn Oldham Gardens — 6300 Old LaGrange Rd. A former commercial greenhouse that Third Turn Brewing converted into what Oldham County tourism describes as Kentucky's largest cultivated beer garden at 8.6 acres of connected greenhouses. There are 32 taps split between an indoor and an outdoor bar, a 68-foot communal table under wisteria, and three food vendors on the property: Backside Grill, Slice N Dice Pizza, and the Four Pegs OG and The Wager kitchens that close an hour before the taproom.

Rootbound Farm. The Summer Farm Concert and Cookout runs Saturday, August 8 at 6:00 PM. A working farm in Crestwood putting on a concert and a meal is exactly the kind of event that reads like a photograph in the county tourism brochure and turns out, in person, to be the actual best evening of the month.

8905 Highway 329. The Field N' Folk Concert Series brings Yapa! and Matixando to this address Saturday, August 29 at 4:00 PM. It is worth naming the street number because "Highway 329" alone hides how quickly Crestwood picks up a folk-and-world lineup that would otherwise require a drive to a Louisville venue.

Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky. Let's Roll: Patriots Day Car Show, Saturday, September 12, starting at 9:00 AM. Classic-car crowd, wide-open lawns, the kind of morning where you leave the house at 8:45 in flip flops and end up eating a hot dog at 11.

The Dining Rotation Locals Actually Keep

The Yelp and Tripadvisor lists shuffle every quarter, but the working Crestwood rotation, in the order a family that lives here tends to cycle through it, looks something like this:
